On a (New) Mission

August 9, 2011

Today we announced that I'm leaving Rocketfuel Games as CEO. We agreed that this was the best time for us to part ways, opening the door for me to pursue other initiatives (more on that shortly). I know the company is in good hands with my co-founders, Jason Suriano and Norman Mendoza, and the rest of the team. I'm proud of what we accomplished together over these last few years. What a great ride.

While it'll be a change to adjust from life inside the startup as a founder, I look forward to continuing our relationship as friends and fellow entrepreneurs. Plus, as a shareholder, I'm excited to see Rocketfuel continue to reach new heights and be a key player in our local startup ecosystem, and in the world of games for learning.

So, what's next?

Many of you know that I've always had a side passion for community building and connecting artists, engineers and entrepreneurs. Collaborating with other like-minded individuals, we've been working to cultivate a competitive, creative entrepreneur ecosystem right here in our own backyard. One that fuels the creation of a new wave of startups across different industries.

It's a side project that demands full-time attention to see it through. And that's why it's the right time to make a move. It gives me an exciting opportunity to aggressively drive this mission and vision forward through Startup Edmonton (and all our related initiatives).

We're a social innovation startup with an ambitious goal: to invest in 500 creative entrepreneurs over the next 5 years in our city. Like any startup, figuring out how to get there will be the challenge. But I'm confident that the desire, talent, and spirit exists in Edmonton - we just need to activate it.

Stay tuned, because we're just getting started.
